Learning Support

Learning Support at Calday is provided for students with additional educational needs so that they can take a full part in school life and fulfil their potential as successful, independent learners. Many aspects of a student’s school life, whilst not fitting the definition of Special Educational Needs, clearly constitute individual needs from that particular student’s point of view. A given set of circumstances may mean that a student needs additional emotional, academic, medical, social or behavioural support to deal with specific problems over a period of time.

We offer a variety of support across the age range and curriculum including one to one work with students and counselling and revision support groups at GCSE.  We work in close consultation with students, parents and subject teachers and regularly reassess our students to ensure that all of their needs are met.  Every Faculty has a member of staff who is responsible for liaising with Learning Support to promote inclusive practice across the school.

Student Support

The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) offers guidance an expertise to students and their parents who have individual or health care needs.

The SEN support teacher provides one to one support for students with individual needs. She is a dyslexia specialist teacher and tests for examination access arrangements.

School Counsellor is available for self-referral from students or referral from staff or from parents. The Counsellor works in confidence with any students who need emotional support and often this work will enable access to other support as part of an on-going process.

Learning Support Assistants provide support for specific students who require one to one support.

Wirral Local Offer

As part of the Government Green paper (Support and Aspiration) The government has outlined a new approach to special educational needs and disability. As part of this initiative the government requires all local authorities in England to set out a Local Offer.

The purpose of the Local Offer is to enable parents and young people to see more clearly what services are available to them in their area and how to access them. Find out more>>

School Offer

The range of services, support and expertise that a school can offer students with special educational needs and disabilities is called ‘The School Offer’.  Whilst students who attend Calday Grange Grammar School have achieved the required standard for a grammar school education and our curriculum matches the needs of all of our students, we also support students with a range of individual needs in a variety of ways.
