Key Stage 3


Topics and texts will be studied at different times by different classes. All classes are mixed ability.

Year 7

  • Persuasive writing/speeches; media techniques; war poetry; non-fiction writing; Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”; Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”; a Shakespeare project unit; Orwell’s “Animal Farm”

Year 8

  • Informative writing; review writing; Sachar’s “Holes”; Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” poetry from other cultures.

Year 9

  • Advertising and the media; poetry analysis, techniques and writing; Shakespeare’s “Richard III”; a choice between Pullman’s “The Ruby in the Smoke” and Steinbeck’s classic, “Of Mice and Men”; Speaking and Listening practice for Key Stage 4.
