We offer the following support and guidance through the process of applying to university.
The application preparation begins, for some, right at the beginning of the lower sixth. Potential medics, vets and dentists are encouraged to seek out work experience in relevant practices and are given information about relevant taster courses which are offered during Year 12.
The enrichment opportunities offered at the school, as well as the service element of the Duke of Edinburgh award, provide students with experience which is much valued by universities and employers.
The application process
During the Summer term, students will register with UCAS and begin completing the online application. Students work closely with their Form Tutor and will be advised about entering subject details and about drafting their Personal Statements. All applications are monitored closely and advice is available at every stage of the procedure.
There is also an information evening organised by the school which parents can attend to better understand the process themselves. At the bottom of the page are links to documents that students and parents might find useful whilst preparing a UCAS application.
Choosing courses and universities
Students attend a Higher Education Convention at the University of Liverpool. This is arranged by the school and offers students the chance to meet with representatives from various universities and attend useful and relevant seminars.
Students are encouraged to visit universities open days. These are usually held at weekends and we expect that students will only use school days where there is a clash for open days or genuine difficulty with travelling to a university.
Application to Oxford and Cambridge
For students aspiring to Oxbridge, or other world class universities, a programme tailored for preparation to such institutions includes visits to universities and mock academic interviews.
When the A level results are published, senior members of staff are available in school to offer advice and support.
