Supporting Sport & Enrichment Activities
Because we understand the importance of enrichment activities and appreciate the benefits of participation for our students, it is essential that we provide the best possible opportunities at Calday Grange Grammar School. In order to continue to do this we have launched the Student Enrichment Fund. Please click here to find out how you can support the school.
It is compulsory for students joining the school to purchase their school blazer, tie and PE kit from the School Shop. Selected items of sports kit and clothing may also be purchased online from the School Shop. Please visit the shop where you will be able to view the range of products available.
School uniform is to be worn on all occasions, including; parents' evenings, on the way to and from school, on organised trips and when representing the school in a team. The only exception is when the Headteacher or member of staff in charge specifically says that certain other clothing may be worn, such as non-uniform days.
All Year 7 and 8 students are required to have an A4 hardback sketchbook with 140gsm cartridge paper. Hardwearing books with good quality drawing and painting paper and the school logo may be purchased from the school shop for a subsidised price of £3.15.
These sketchbooks will be used regularly in both lessons and at home to complete tasks set and keep a diary of their creative journey; building and reinforcing different skills & techniques over the two year course of study to the end of Year 8. High quality standards of presentation and a pride in the work produced are one of the keys to success in Art and the sketchbooks are used to monitor this as well as student’s progress. Parents are also encouraged to regularly check books and to sign the pages they have looked at, giving written feedback on their sons progress.
Please visit Parent ParentPay where you may purchase a sketchbook, your son will receive his sketchbook at the start of the new term in September.
The travel page on our website contains useful information that will assist you when planning journeys to and from school. Whether that be walking, by car, bike, bus or train.
School lockers are supplied and managed by an external company, ILS, who support over 100 schools across the country. ILS maintain the lockers and empty and clean them each Summer. Parents may purchase a locker rental each year for the period September to July directly with ILS for the price of £22. All rentals are subject to ILS terms and conditions which are available during the booking process.
The locker size is H 595mm x W 300mm x D 450mm.
Lockers for September 2020 – July 2021 will be available to book online at www.ilsschools.co.uk from 8 July 2020 onwards.
Lockers are subject to availability so please book early to avoid disappointment. You will be allocated a locker in a location near to your child’s form room. You will also be able to indicate whether they prefer a locker on the top, middle or bottom row. ILS deal directly with parents and send the keys out by post in August. The School holds a master key to enable the lockers to be opened in exceptional circumstances.
Students are strongly recommended to wear a mouthguard for certain sporting activities. In particular, rugby and hockey participants should always be protected. The best types of mouthguards are those made using an individual impression taken by a dentist. We do not recommend the type bought from sports shops which are moulded to the mouth after softening in hot water. They do not fit accurately enough to protect well, they are uncomfortable to wear and can be easily dislodged, causing breathing difficulties.
The school currently provides the facility for students to be fitted with mouthguards by a local dentist once a year in September, we arrange for the dentist to visit the school during the school day. Mouthguards would normally cost in the region of £50.00 to £100.00 but we are able to offer them at a reduced cost.
Please visit the School Shop where you will be able to make your purchase.
Musical Instrument Tuition Programme
The music department at Calday are able to offer instrumental music lessons to students. Students may decide to continue with their existing instrument or try something completely new. Lessons are heavily subscribed and are offered on a first come first served basis. However, we do keep our waiting lists regularly updated.
Instruments are not provided by the school, but these may be bought or hired from a variety of local firms who specialise in this service. If you require information about this please do not hesitate to contact the department.
Our peripatetic teachers at Calday are selected by us and are self-employed, meaning that they will invoice you directly.
- Payment for lessons is not via the school accounts
- All peripatetic teachers are DBS checked
We have a very active and flourishing music department. The music department runs a busy extra curricular programme which caters for a number of musical interests. Extra-curricular music is represented by many different ensembles, including choirs, orchestras, jazz bands, wind bands, chamber ensembles and rock bands.
- Please complete the form via the button below if If you wish for your child to have lessons.
- We would also like to know if your child does play an instrument but does not wish to have lessons in school.
If your child is joining us at Calday in Year 7, please do this by the last Friday in June.
The Junior Camp
This is a private sports venture which is held annually at Calday Grange Grammar School during the summer holidays and is run by Colin Lamprey who is also a teacher of sport at the school. This sports venture is now in its 25th year and is always well attended.
The activities on offer include tennis, cricket, swimming, softball, basketball, volleyball, tag-rugby, uni-hockey, hockey, football and table tennis.
The ‘new’ Year 7 entrants are grouped together, giving them a chance to meet new friends, whilst familiarising themselves with members of staff and the facilities before they officially arrive in September. This has proved to be an excellent introduction to their new school. The sports camp is available to any child aged 7 and above, girls and non-Calday students are encouraged to come along.
For £70 students receive qualified instruction on all sporting activities. If two children attend from the same family the cost is £130, for three children the cost is £190 (this applies to siblings only).
