    Learning Resource Centre

Strikingly light and airy, the re-designed and refurbished Learning Resource Centre was opened in September 2006.  This attractive space provides a high quality traditional school library, as well as a modern study space on two levels for all students who wish to access it. There are also useful links to the right of this page.

We are keen to maintain an up-to-date research facility for our students and regularly review the stock, both physical and electronic, to ensure that the Learning Resource Centre meets the changing needs of students and examination specifications.  Stock is selected to support the curriculum and students’ interests and requests; reviews in school library literature, periodicals and the media also help to inform these choices.

Resources include over 10,000 books, journals, newspapers, audio and e-books and DVDs.  There is also a fully networked ICT suite on its own separate mezzanine floor which includes a number of PCs.

The Learning Resource Centre provides both the resources and environment to enable our students to read widely, carry out effective research, study quietly and develop information and literacy skills. Our aim is that they become confident, discerning users of the wide range of information and research resources available to them.

“A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people. It is a never failing spring in the desert.”  Andrew Carnegie

Sixth Form students are able to use the facilities for private study throughout the day.  Students from Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 have access during break, lunchtimes and after school.

A team of student library assistants support the Learning Resource Centre Manager in day-to-day running.
